Chinese Brush Painting: Summer Pleasures

Course dates: 01 September 2015 - 04 September 2015

Heady perfumes, ripening fruit and lazy summer evenings are the subjects for this three-night course. You will have time to try both traditional painting styles. 'Free style' is on paper and uses free brush strokes to create a subject, whereas 'meticulous' is finely painted on silk. You will complete one silk and at least two free-style paintings, using the traditional subjects of flowers and birds associated with summer in China.

Millinery: Create a Modern Felt Cloche Hat and Unique Fascinator

This course will provide you with an in depth insight in to the world of hat making. We will use traditional millinery techniques to create modern felt cloches that are suitable for both a trip into town or an elegant winter wedding. We will also cover many different trimming techniques including working with sinamay fabric and felting flowers with merino wool.

History and Heritage: The Stately Homes of England

Course dates: 01 September 2015 - 03 September 2015

This course’s main aim is to study the development of some of England’s great country houses and their parkland estates. Visits and illustrated talks provide the stimulus for this dip into our classical architectural history.

History and Heritage: The Arts and Crafts Movement

Course dates: 01 September 2015 - 04 September 2015

This course will examine the Arts and Craft movement in the context of their rebellion against industrialisation and their interest in the natural world. You will visit William Morris’s house for many decades, Kelmscott Manor, as well as Rodmarton Manor in Gloucestershire, a unique example of a house and garden built and furnished entirely in the Arts and Crafts tradition. There will be some walking around house grounds. Please contact the tutor if there are any questions about mobility.

Drum for Fun

Course dates: 03 September 2015 - 04 September 2015

Drumming is great fun, very focusing, a powerful way of making music with other people. It is accessible way into music as well as being a music genre in its own right. Working in a drum circle, you will start with body beats and percussion, rhythm games and activities, and learn how to make our own rhythms, polyrhythms, and African drum rhythms. This is a course for beginners or those with a little experience.
