Course No.: 112.522 | Course Tutors: Geoff Doel, Fran Doel
Full course description:
The Bloomsbury Group was an informal association of artists critics, writers and economists whose dissatisfaction with Victorian attitudes and aesthetics led to a fundamental cultural and social revaluation, turning from religion, Empire and conventional sexual ethics and helping to re-invigorate the fossilising British literary and artistic conventions through European and Modernist ideas. We will explore the Bloomsberries' artistic, literary, social, political and economic influence through the works and vision of Virginia Woolf, Vita Sackville West, Lytton Strachey, Roger Fry, Maynard Keynes, Duncan Grant and Vanessa Bell.
