Word of Mouth - Taking Oral Histories
Course Dates: 24 February 2012 - 26 February 2012
Course No.: 112.526 | Course Tutors: Anne Stamper
Full course description:
This course will introduce the value of archives, and the way to collect, catalogue and store them. Most archives are made up of written documents and oral history can offer a valuable further dimension. Oral history is a method of historical documentation, using interviews with living survivors of the time being investigated. Oral history often touches on topics scarcely touched on by written documents, and by doing so, fills in the gaps of records. We will consider ways to prepare for interviews, explore interviewing techniques, and practice interviewing.
