Most people in this country can read and do so constantly, because we are surrounded by writing wherever we look: newspapers, billboards, letters and also on TV and computer screens. All this is being done with just 26 letters and most of us never really wonder how extraordinary this really is and why we are using these letters exactly. Have you ever wondered where our alphabet comes from and if it has always been the way it is now?

Get ready for a bumpy ride through time and space, because this talk will get you acquainted with some of the surprising stories related to how the English alphabet became what it is today.

This talk is a repeat of Tilo's lecture from Spring 2021, for those who missed it, or who just fancy coming along again!
