Feel free to bring along a favourite drum but do leave your rings at home!

An Introduction to Dorset Buttons with Kate Fenney

Dorset buttons are very versatile with a variety of designs only limited by the threads used or imagination and can be the finishing touch to another pice of work or used as a button. But they can also be so much more as the basis for a piece of jewellery or wall hanging. This workshop will introduce how Dorset buttons are constructed and then you will make a brooch as a bunch of flowers.

Corsets, Crinolines and Camisoles with Fran Saltmarsh

It’s all done in the name of fashion, so they say, but over many hundreds of years we have bound ourselves up in many layers of very constricting under-clothing just to get ‘the look’ of the day!   Be it 300 AD or the twenty first century we still want to look the part, whatever and however it may cost us in comfort and money!

Just to show you how crazy we have been over the centries to obtain ‘the look’ of the moment we will groan and gasp at pictures of both male and female under-wear, from Roman times right through to the twentieth century,  before looking at some authentic pieces that I have collected.  There is nothing more evocative than feeling and seeing the ‘real thing’, which gives us a very moving slice of history in the flesh!

Dance around the world with Sally Shepherd
