Anglo-Indian chef and author Jenny Mallin takes you on a journey of discovery, bringing back the home cooked dishes that her grandmothers once prepared: unearthing those well loved dishes which were made for the family table, such as Mulligatawny Soup which Anglo-Indians call "Pepper Water" (so called as "milagu" means pepper and "tunni" means water). Learn how to make an authentic Chicken Jalfrezi, the right way...without a green pepper in sight! Find out why Jenny's grandmothers retained their love of British food and how they turned it into the first fusion food of its kind. See the grandmothers' original recipes with their charming phrases to "wash the rice sharp" and "place in a nicely heated oven". Re-ignite your taste buds and bring a new repertoire to your cooking skills with the "Flavours of the British Raj". Explore the strong influence of those delicious spices from India where English memsahibs interacted with their cooks to produce unique, tasty and satisfying dishes. With a 500 year old history that links back to Vasco da Gama, the Portuguese explorer, who was the first European to reach India by sea.
