Tutor: Christine Green

Always fancied having a go at patchworking but not known where to start? This is the perfect opportunity to have a go under the expert eye of Christine Green. Perfect for beginners although some experience with a sewing machine would be helpful but not essential.
She will bring along various patchworked items and lots of resources to get your creative juices going. You will learn  how to design a simple but effective pattern based on a square and how to choose fabrics that will enhance your design. You will learn the joys of using a rotary cutter, accurate pinning and machine chain stitching. You'll assemble your pieces to create a panel which could be made in to either a cushion cover, or decorative table piece or small throw for a chair.
Once you've mastered the basics you'll be happily hooked on scrappy patchwork!

Material requirements:
You will need to bring between three and five different patterned or plain cotton fabrics to use, preferably items which you are recycling, eg cotton shirts or blouses, scraps of light to medium weight furnishing fabrics, old aprons or dresses.
If you would like to make a cushion cover please bring a pad so that we can size it properly.
If you would like to make a small throw or table piece please ensure you have enough fabric to make a backing for your panel, eg a metre square.
Please also bring a box of pins and sewing thread that coordinates with your fabric choices - it would be great if on the day we can do some mixing and matching of fabrics!
Christine will also bring additional fabrics and threads. which you can purchase should you need to.
Rotary cutters, rulers and cutting mats can be supplied by Denman.
If you have your own sewing machine please do bring it along, if not don’t worry sewing machines, can be supplied by Denman, order one when you book on the course.
