Two important pilgrimage sites associated with St Patrick in Ireland are Croagh Patrick, a 2,500 foot mountain in Mayo on the summit of which Patrick is said to have fasted for 40 days, and St Patrick’s Purgatory on Station Island in Lough Derg, Donegal, where Christ is said to have showed Patrick a cave that was an entrance to Purgatory.
