In light of current affairs, many may have realised just how precious little they know about Ukraine. This multi-part series will introduce you to the rich culture and history of this great, yet largely unknown, European country.

Part 2 of the series focuses on the emergence of the Slavic Principalities from their humble beginnings to a time when Kyiv had become the cultural centre of the whole region. They incorporated influences from the Vikings to the Byzantines to form their own distinct culture, and became strong enough to deal with the never-ending influx of peoples from the steppes.
