The words “Colonial Empire” conjure up certain images, first and foremost the British Empire, of course. But then you might also think of the Spanish, the Portuguese, the Dutch and the French Empires… maybe even the German Overseas Empire. But have you ever considered that other nations had such colonial ambitions, too?

This talk is going to bring to your attention some European colonial empires that have been lost to history through no fault of their own. Maybe they simply got gobbled up by others, or they simply weren’t sustainable. Let yourself be surprised by some unexpected colonisers and the strange places they chose to do so…
