King Lear – a sweeping family drama, a commentary on power and hubris, and a dark tragedy. This fabulously rich and intricate play is memorable not only for its powerful themes, but also for its complex characterisation, and carefully woven sub-plots. It contains some of the most evocative speeches of any Shakespearean play. Across this pair of lectures, Simon will explore the themes of the play in detail, as well as readings of some of the key sections of the drama.
