Home • Access Anytime • On Demand Literature : Geoff’s Talk on The Works of Jane Austen – Mansfield Park
Welcome to our new ‘Denman On Demand’ courses, where you can tune into pre recorded demonstrations & talks at a time which suits you! This class will be available to view for 7 days after purchase.
‘Mansfield Park’ (1814) has been described as a ‘highly moralised romance of family fortunes’, and a fable on a ‘Cinderella’ theme. Join Geoff as he explores, the characters, themes and impact of this classic novel, which tells the story of timid Fanny Price who seems to have few of the usual attributes of the heroines of the 19th century, who is juxtaposed with the lively Mary Crawford, who is more to many readers’ tastes. This novel includes vivid naval scenes in Portsmouth which add contrast and an extra dimension to this story. There will be ample opportunity at the end of this talk to ask Geoff questions and to discuss the text and themes raised.
