‘Northanger Abbey’ (1818) Join Geoff as he delves into Jane Austen’s superb send-up of the gothic novel formula, whose delightfully naïve heroine Catherine Morland who uses gothic novels as a guide to life. The novel follows her journey to a better understanding of herself and the world around her as she distinguishes between fiction and reality just in time to make a romantic marriage. There will be ample opportunity at the end of this talk to ask Geoff questions and to discuss the text and themes raised.
