‘Persuasion’ (1818) Join Geoff as he explores Jane Austen’s final complete novel ‘Persuasion’. This work has an elegiac quality and shows a subtle shift in her views on the romantic versus economic aspects of marriage and on the value of the professional classes regarding the inherited titles and property of the aristocracy. It tells the story of a second chance and the reawakening of love between Anne Elliot and Captain Frederick Wentworth, whom 8 years earlier she had been persuaded not to marry. There will be ample opportunity at the end of this talk to ask Geoff questions and to discuss the text and themes raised.

Please note this is a recording from a live talk.
