If you have ever seen images of Venice, they will have stuck to your mind. Of course, St. Mark’s Square, Rialto bridge, gondolas, the views along the canals and winding paths are wonderful sights to never forget. But there is more to Venice than these well-known glimpses.

Most commonly, Venice is the destination of a daytrip from the mainland or the beach resorts, and few visitors stay overnight because it’s considered too expensive. Believe it or not: a night-time visit of Venice proper is probably the best way to really get an understanding of what living here is all about.

Besides, Venice is not only gorgeous buildings along the majestic Canal Grande. There are many interesting locations in the labyrinth of narrow streets and on the surrounding islands in the lagoon that go far beyond what you would expect. Let me introduce you to the lesser known parts of Venice.
