During the Middle Ages Norwich was second only to London in wealth and importance. Today the City could be described as a mini-London with its wide variety of art venues, large retail centre, ancient lanes and buildings, plus more medieval churches than any other city in Western Europe. The great Cathedral and towering Norman Castle Keep dominate the centre of an ancient walled settlement.

This walk will begin by walking along the River Wensum towards the Cathedral Close, through the ancient narrow lanes, gradually meandering towards the heart of the City with its Guildhall, ancient colourful market, Victorian arcade and the Castle Mount.
