In this fun, chatty and informal workshop, using appliqué and freehand machine embroidery we will explore textures and tonal values to create a gradient scale from white to black. The course will stretch your ability to create as much difference in tone and texture as possible. These skills are very useful to expand your freehand and appliqué skills and take you to the next level.
Stacey will demonstrate using a new set of bits and bobs in these colour ways to create another gradient sample from scratch, explaining the thought process behind each segment whilst sewing. This will act as encouragement to ask similar questions of your own stash of offcuts and to spark your own individual response to the set framework for this project.
If you enjoyed the previous Denman courses for mark making drawing or the freehand doodle, this workshop could be perfect for you as we will be building upon those skill sets within a different framework.
This exercise is useful to make you consider how to create interest and difference with a needle and offcuts. It is a great fun creative challenge as well as teaching you to push the boundaries from the standard overlapping straight lines often used in freehand.
This workshop would suit improvers for freehand machine embroidery or be a great challenge to people who enjoyed the mark making drawing course even if new to sewing. If you have never tried free motion embroidery before, this may still suit your skill level, however prior to the course it is advised to purchase a download of the PDF of Basics Freehand Machine Embroidery for £2.50 (information on this included after booking) and practise beforehand, as we won’t be covering all of the basic principles and equipment during this session.
Information Document, Materials List and Zoom log in details will be included at the bottom of your confirmation email after you have registered.
(If you do not receive a confirmation email please check your spam/junk email boxes or sign into your Denman account on our website www.denman.org.uk/your-account/ )
