In this session, Claire will be using heat resistant insulated wadding* to make some lovely co-ordinated kitchen accessories, a double oven glove and potholder, and also a useful ironing mat (you may have seen her using the mat during her Denman classes). There is an option to quilt the oven glove and potholder, which she will show you during the class. The same materials and techniques can also be used for making placemats.
If you are new to sewing, the ironing mat is the best item to begin with, followed by the potholder which is a good practice piece for using bias binding.
Along with the insulated wadding, you’ll just need some medium-weight washable fabric and some bias binding (for the glove and potholder).
If you would like to have a go at making along, it would be a good idea to cut out your pieces first so that you are ready to sew.
*There are different brands of insulated wadding available, such as Sew Simple Insulating Wadding and Insul Bright. These can be purchased on-line or from fabric and haberdashery shops.
