Melanie’s talk explores the story of the British heroine who died in Brussels in 1915.
From Edith’s childhood in Norfolk, her training as a nurse and her appointment as a matron at a new training school for nurses in Brussels. The Great War interrupted Edith’s nursing career and drew her into a world of helping Allied soldiers escape to neutral Holland, leading the Germans to arrest and charge Edith with treason and execute her at dawn on 12th October 1915. Melanie’s talk provides the story of her life and will leave audiences feeling that they really know Edith.
